Another lunch outing

We did Mizi’s last time. So this time me and the MO decided to head out to Breeks Cafe in Gurney Plaza. I dunno why it’s called that, because breeks is actually a Scottish term for trousers—perhaps the owner is Scottish or has a sense of humor.

We enquired and the waiter told us there was no set lunch available, although they had a signboard outside saying there was. Anyway, we ordered just main courses and drinks…MO had an iced mocha coffee and I had a maraschino coffee—it resembled something that we could have ordered at The Coffee Bean next door, but it was cheaper. This was where I played with my laptop a while ago.

It wasn’t long before our food arrived. MO had the Pacific Dory Fish with mushroom sauce.

And I had a Grilled Cajun Chicken with BBQ sauce. Portions were pretty reasonable.

The damage came to around $20 USD. Not too bad, but I think I’ll opt back for Mizi’s next time. We decided to work off some of the food by going to Gurney Plaza for a bit. The shopping malls here are all decked out with Christmas decorations and stuff, but with the hot sun beating down it’s set to be another festive scorcher—not a drop of snow to be found!

Feeling Good

It’s one of these mornings where my mood’s just basking. I had my morning walk as usual, listening to some wonderful Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev on my mp3 player. Came back, had some breakfast and coffee, then booted up the computer. Had a chat with a wonderful friend and then went out to get some music books for my students. We had a brief power cut in this area today so I took that as an excuse to go out, LOL.

I decided to pamper myself a little today, so I headed out to Gurney Plaza and had a nice lunch at Kim Gary, one of my favorite restaurants. Their food prices are very reasonable and service is fast. I opted for the “American” or A-Set. Yummy—Borsch soup, chicken fillet, a thick pork and ham slice, sausages, a generous helping of spaghetti and some mixed veggies, together with an ice-cold coffee drink. All for just $4.50 USD. Ah, I’m really spoiling myself.

After that I went to MPH Bookstore. It’s great there because unlike a lot of other bookstores here, most of the magazines and books aren’t sealed up in plastic wrapping. I nearly bought one of the Reader’s Digest Select Editions but decided that it could wait. Visited the Canon Concept Store because I was eyeing my “mystery” birthday present (all will be revealed shortly, please be patient). The Canon staff were very friendly and helpful, and I did manage to see it later in the day.

Then off I went to play at the E & O Hotel, and what do you know, I meet up with two of my ex-students having their dinner with their parents. I hadn’t seen the children for over 3 years, the daughter was now 10. She was lovely and kept up a lively chatter with me. The thing that made my heart melt was when she said, “Teacher, I’d really prefer to continue learning with you, unfortunately we live so far away.” Altogether now, awwwwwwww. Nice to hear some kind words for a change.
