Plunging into HTML (and hopefully CSS)

It’s always the first step that is hardest, right? I remember my first swimming lesson when I was young-gosh, the water just looked intimidating. But once you relax, and reason with yourself that gee, it’s only the kids’ pool, the water is only 1.5 feet deep, it doesn’t feel that scary anymore (oh, and let’s not forget the presence of the swimming instructor too).

That’s what I felt like when first learning HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). I mean, I’m not exactly an old fart, but I have only two years more until the big 50. So what the heck, I’ve decided to plunge into the HTML waters (I’ll start at the shallow end, if you don’t mind).  For my guide, I’m using Jennifer Niederst Robbins’ excellent book, Learning Web Design: A Beginner’s Guide to (X)HTML, Style Sheets, and Web Graphics. A very nice book for newbies like me, so far it’s been pretty smooth-sailing.

I guess it’s just the way the world is moving nowadays-learning everything and anything on your own (even playing the piano) Provided you have the desire, patience, and determination, I’d say go for it!

  1. Brings tears to my eyes – I’m just so proud of you! I knew you could do it. Now you too can become addicted to finding scripts, playing with your HTML and CSS and tweaking for the rest of time. Hehe!! Getting in touch with your inner techno geek is just so fun isn’t it?

  2. Doris…heh, I gotta confess. I still feel a little drowsy after reading about too much HTML. However, I will persevere. It’s like getting under the hood of a car, isn’t it?
